Cover Cropping and Permanent Pasture
Cover Cropping and permanent pasture in vineyards builds organic matter and improves soil health. This work commences after harvest from mid-April through to late May. Soil aeration is recommended through the use of the Yeoman plow. We til to a depth that allows the rotary hoe to work the soil gently with ease. The crop is then sown directly into worked soil. This process is carried out when soil moisture conditions are ideal and are only done once a year if cover cropping or 5 – 7 years if sowing a permanent pasture.
